Selling Gold at SouthBay Gold

1. First we start off by checking for magnetism. Gold and Silver are not magnetic. Then we look for a Carat stamp (example 14kt). After we discover all possible Carat stamps we divide the pieces up to be acid tested. Dont worry, if your piece is not stamped we will figure it out in the acid test stage.

2. Next at the acid stage test we simply scuff the jewelry with a piece of sand paper to expose the raw metal of the gold. Once the piece is scuffed we drop a small amount of Nitric acid onto it to see if the metal will began to react with the acid. If the metal does not darken it passes that carat acid test. If the metal darkens then it contains a lower amount of gold then stamped. This occurs about 1 out of 30 times.

3. Once we have determined what the pureness of your gold is and how much it is worth we will give you a estimate in person or over the phone if you send your gold in the mail.
